The Community Orchard

Established by the Parish Council in 2012 during Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee Year, the orchard is a very special space for people and nature to thrive. A small band of local residents look after the 73 heritage fruit trees, native hedges and wildflower meadow and are keen to welcome visitors and new volunteers.
Open every day, the orchard is a lovely place for a stroll amongst the trees, especially during spring blossom time and to wander through the meadow in the summer watching clouds of butterflies feeding on the colourful wildflowers. Take time to relax on the bench, bring a rug or stay a bit longer to enjoy an al fresco lunch at the picnic table.
The highlight of the year is the Fruit Celebration in October when we invite you to share the bounty of the orchard!
We have produced a handy guide (click on handy guide) which will take you through a year in the community orchard. There are tasks that we need to carry out at different times of the year, such as pruning, thinning, scything the meadow, hay raking and of course, fruit picking. Come and join us at one of the orchard events:
