Chignal Parish

Defibrillators

Two new defibrillators have been installed in the parish, one in the red telephone box by The Green in Chignal St James, and the other under the parish noticeboard outside of St Nicolas Church in Chignal Smealey.  The original defibrillator can be found next to the front door of the Village Hall. All the defibrillators are inside locked cabinets.  You must ring 999, ask for the ambulance service and they will give you the number to unlock the cabinet.

Inside the cabinet is a satchel containing the defibrillator and pads, plus a small kit of potentially useful items (scissors, razor, aspirin). Remove the defibrillator satchel the bring to patient. All defibrillators will give you voice and picture activated instructions of how to perform CPR, how to attach the defibrillator pads and when to administer a shock.  The defibrillators determine in there is a heartbeat so you cannot shock the patient if there is a heartbeat.

There will be a training session in the parish at a future date to explain what to do in an emergency requiring the use of the defibrillators.  The NHS and London ambulance service have issued a video which you can watch – How to use a defibrillator on https://www.londonambulance.nhs.uk.
